Raga attributions for film songs, ghazals, and semi-classical pieces are often disputed. Composers may draw from a raga without strictly adhering to it. Treat these as approximate — we show a confidence indicator on each entry.

Sindhi Bhairavi · 5 compositions

Sindhi Bhairavi is a variant of Bhairavi with folk music influences from Sindh. It is widely used in light classical and film music.

Legend & Lore

Sindhi Bhairavi is a regional variant of Raga Bhairavi, enriched by the folk music traditions of the Sindh region — the ancient river civilisation straddling present-day Pakistan and northwest India.

Where classical Bhairavi is a fully developed raga performed at the close of a concert, Sindhi Bhairavi carries a rawer, more earthy quality drawn from the folk melodies associated with Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, the 18th-century Sufi poet-saint of Sindh.

It uses all the komal swaras of the Bhairavi thaat (Re, Ga, Dha, Ni) but approaches them with folk-inflected ornaments and rhythmic patterns that give it a more accessible, emotionally direct quality.

Widely used in the light classical genres of thumri and dadra, it has also produced many beloved film songs themed around departure, longing, and homecoming.
